Opportunities Buddy (“we,” “us,” or “our”) runs the website opportunitiesbuddy.com (the “Site”). We publish scholarship, fellowship, and funding opportunity information, and we take the privacy of the people who read it seriously. This policy sets out what information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what control you have over it. Using the Site means you accept the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us directly. If you contact us, subscribe to updates, or leave a comment, we receive whatever you choose to include, typically your name and email address, plus the content of your message. Comments and other submissions may contain personal details, so please share only what you are comfortable making public.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, ours records basic technical data each time a page loads: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, time spent on each page, and the site or search that referred you. This tells us which opportunities readers find useful and where the Site is slow or broken.
Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies, pixels, and comparable tools to remember your preferences, keep sessions working, and measure traffic. Some are set by us. Others come from analytics or advertising partners.
Social sharing. Our share buttons connect to platforms such as Facebook, X, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp. When you use one, that platform may collect data about you, including your IP address and the page you shared, under its own privacy policy. We neither control nor receive that data.
2. How we use your information
We use what we collect to:
- run, secure, and maintain the Site
- reply to your questions and messages
- send newsletters or opportunity alerts, where you have asked to receive them
- understand which content is working and improve what we publish
- prevent spam, abuse, and fraudulent activity
- meet our legal obligations and protect our rights
We do not use your information to make automated decisions that significantly affect you.
3. How we share your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only in these situations:
- Service providers. Hosting, analytics, email delivery, and security vendors who process data on our behalf and are bound to protect it.
- Social platforms. When you voluntarily use a share button, as described above.
- Legal requirements. When we are required to disclose information by law or valid legal process, or where disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, our readers, or public safety.
- Business transfer. If the Site is sold, merged, or otherwise transferred, reader information may pass to the new owner under this same policy.
4. Advertising and analytics
We may use analytics and advertising services run by outside companies. These services set their own cookies and may build profiles based on your browsing across websites. You can usually opt out through each provider’s settings or through your browser’s advertising and tracking controls.
5. Managing cookies
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Doing so is entirely your choice, but note that some features, including share buttons and saved preferences, may stop working correctly.
6. External links
We link to universities, funding bodies, government portals, and application pages so you can apply directly at the source. Once you leave our Site, this policy no longer applies. Please read the privacy policy of any site you visit before submitting personal or financial information. We are not responsible for the content or practices of external websites.
7. Data security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect the information we hold against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. No method of transmission or storage online is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to keep risk low and to act quickly if a problem arises.
8. How long we keep your data
We retain information only as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Comments remain published until you or we remove them. Analytics data is retained on the schedules set by our analytics providers.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you
- correct anything inaccurate or incomplete
- delete your information, subject to any legal obligation to retain it
- object to or restrict certain processing
- withdraw consent at any time, including by clicking “unsubscribe” in any email we send
To exercise any of these rights, email us at opportunitiesbuddy@gmail.com. We will respond within the time frame required by applicable law.
10. Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for university applicants, graduates, and professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International readers
Opportunities Buddy serves an international audience. Your information may be stored or processed in countries other than your own, where data protection laws may differ. Where required, we take steps to ensure such transfers are lawfully protected.
12. Updates to this policy
We may revise this policy as our practices or legal obligations change. The revised version will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes will be announced clearly on the Site. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
